WirelessTweak Released

Posted by Kelvin in Everything

Guys/Gals:

REALLY SORRY for being missing from Yandao.com in a week or so after the competition thingy. Alot of things happened, people screwed me up, the school backstabbed me painfully, and I made quite alot of rash actions in my IG which had immense repercussions. Hence, I really do need time to sort those problems out.

As of now, the bulk of the problems should be mainly resolved, and I will resume regular (almost daily) posting really soon :)

Hmm.

Can’t connect to Ad-Hoc Wireless Networks?
Can’t change much of the wireless network settings?
Can’t do your experiments because the school make things cockup?

*Yawn* And they thought it was uncrackable. Awww.

Anyways, here’s WirelessTweak for you all - now you can remove the restriction (Wireless Group Policy) that Republic Polytechnic’s network gurus forced upon your poor, docile, laptops.

How sweet of them, don’t you think so? ;)

GL: Life in RP was always interesting, especially when they decided to make things difficult for us - then its time we crack them back =X

x1a0 kang: Wahaha! I shall ask YehYing who you are so can thank you for supporting Yandao.com :) Thanks bro!

greym0nk: It’s very secure already. *Cough*, VERY VERY secure. I think you can ask that nerdy guy you knew from another poly to try stuff.

brand: Awww. Their misconceived perceptions. Now the classrooms will be filled with people after 6PM playing DotA again! We can start clans =X

kelvin cl: Yup, and you guessed right. I should pull you in to become “Prospects Advisor” - guide me on whats in the future :D Then Yandao.com will become big big one day

Yousof: Nonono. Next sem = Year 2 = Alot of backstabbing. Not good to be in the same class as *ANYONE*, except your very good friends - at least from what I hear from the seniors.

passerby: Basically, this tweak disables a specific policy inside YOUR computer - NOT RP’s servers/network NOT NOT NOT them - to allow you to connect everywhere instead of just RP :)

W4: Agreed man. Nobody should be left in chains!

Its dumb for RP (helpdesk) to stop us from playing games. ITS PURE DUMB, cant they do more constructive things such as repairing our darn internet network than to come out with dumb stuff such as blocking ad-hoc.

  13. koonchin said,
    on November 26th, 2006 at 6:33 pm

lol. since ur trying to IMPROVE the RP network. how bout doing sth abt rpguest wireless network. for regular guests to rp, but dont have the blardy student vpn >> like me. muahahax. =p

Cheers to this! No longer will we be wired/wirelessly oppressed. Freedom!!

  15. Anti-** said,
    on November 27th, 2006 at 10:25 am

Hey ya… just wanna let u all know that RP leacturer are mostly part-time so they don’t really care what happen to the IT system.. Unless that if they really going to employ more people which work full-time… Then maybe your crap school security system will improve… anyway just want to let u guys know that if there is this system that given to us can easily bypass this system think of other people who have other program tat exploit the system loophole and able to do funny things to your notebook… i think maybe we should suggest to this crappy school of employing more people to have another look on this security… i strongly believe that this matter should not really be overlook ya… we can really let a student handle the whole system of RP… Firstly the load will be too much…

  16. Edwin said,
    on November 27th, 2006 at 1:13 pm

In reply to Anti—-This wireless tweak is to resolve the grp policy setting in our laptop so this tweak does not in anyway affect the security system. And also no matter how many people u hired, you will still have exploit in your system. Eg look at Microsoft and look at the many patch and updates they provide but Window XP is still prone to a lot of exploits…………..

  17. Kelvin said,
    on November 27th, 2006 at 3:53 pm

WiziNg: Cannot say that also. *MAYBE* they have our welfare in mind. *MAYBE* its for our own good. MAYBE.

koonchin: NP Guests to RP? Awwwwww. What’re you doing here with Ben? Finding new places to “conquer” arh? Thanks for the support though.

seank.j: Wired limitations is good. Because Kelvin = _wired.

Anti-**: Yup. Lecturers don’t give a shit. But the real people who are being overpaid for network mantainence isn’t doing much at all - no offence Michael - your guys are doing great. It’s the other guys. That’s what really needs improvement! I support your stand though.

Edwin: I think you got Anti’s idea wrong. He meant it in a good way :) Read it again!

  18. Anti*** said,
    on November 27th, 2006 at 11:49 pm

anyway… whatever the case that is happening in school… i believe that the school should really stress on the security… anyway… i was kind of curious of why are u in RP???
since u are so good in this IT sector then u could enter into a better poly rather in RP… Which i believe that it teaching system suck… no offence though… coz i heard that one of the reason they don’t employ full-time people is that they believe that thoses who are working in the “real world” could really teaches u pple something… so just curious why u in RP(this question i post it to the author of this blog…)?

    Anti***:
Well.. They’re hosting this competition on Intrusion Detection and Forensics for the whole of Singapore very soon. 11 December - feel free to come down and see how they put sec school students do this kinda stuff. ROTFL. I have some part to play in this, too though - manpower-wise.

I am really in no position to comment on my school - lest another complain come in saying I’ve misrepresented them again, but my personal opinion of it was that its actually one of the strongest - due to their IT teaching methods and modules..

The system sucks at times, true, but it REALLY works if you want to learn - as long as you push hard enough, can get good grades + learn loads. Errr, and they do employ full time staff.

But frankly speaking, again, as far as I know, the part-time staff aren’t as efficient as they would like them to be. They might be efficient at work, and be able to tell you the real “cockups” in the expertise, but they can never be fully committed.

  20. Arc said,
    on November 28th, 2006 at 10:04 am

erm… for ad hoc, just disconnect from RPnet and u host your own.. then ask your friend to join your network.. its doable if u disable your firewall setting from control panel > admin tools > service.

network setting is changable again in service since RP only lock the interface not the core function.

but playing game in school… that is what we really really need. cause school block port. if u play game with ad hoc its pointless but playing game thru game port that school block… wonderful!!! =X

Alfen: To disable the Windows Firewall, see my program, FirewallTweak at http://yandao.com/2006/10/03/firewalltweak-released/
